Professional practice in caring for maternal grief in the face of stillbirth in two countries

ABSTRACT Objective: to understand professional care for maternal grief in the puerperium of stillbirth. Methods: a clinical-qualitative study with all women who had stillbirths living Maringá (Brazil) and participating Center d’Études et de Recherche Family Intervention at University Quebec Outaouais Gatineau (Canada). Semi-structured interviews were carried out relevant aspects categorized into themes. Results: identified categories were: Assistance received focus on grief: hospital outpatient environment, Professional support coping after fetal loss: contact memories, without memories impossibilities baby. Final considerations: need multidisciplinary monitoring network experienced loss was evident. From this study, routine can be implemented Brazil based experiences Canada.
